day 56- torrential downpours, late movies but fresh breath

have you seen the dark knight yet? wow. that was intense... and long. i always go see these comic book movies with a good friend from my youth. we always head out to the new comic book movie with the expectation that is is going to suck. five years ago, that was usually the case.

nowadays things are looking up. the movie companies really seem to care about making a comic book movie that is true to the comic, not just a movie to make money.

go figure.. now they make a bunch of cash. to bad they had not figured this out like ten years ago.. 20 years ago.

since the weather was once again forcast to be poor tonight i again did not schedule a movie on the roof. i am starting to wonder if we will ever be able to have another wednesday movie on the roof. there always seems to be few thunderstorms rolling in to wash out the fun.

instead of m.o.t.r. we finally headed out to see the dark knight down at battery park only to find out that the 10pm movie will have no air conditioning. the 10:50movie will however have the cool breezes. we switched to the cool breezes of the late movie.

one thing i did not know about the dark knight.

how long it was.

holy jesus. it was brilliant, but damn it was long.

getting out of a movie on a school night at almost 2am is beyond even my limits, but damn it was good.

heath ledger captured the essence of the joker in a way i had never imagined possible. the "real" joker from the comics is one of the most twisted characters ever created (even better when recreated by frank miller).

to see a movie and not see the actor playing the character is rare. the performance heath ledger gave went beyond any expectation i ever could have had. the whole movie did in fact.

but it was long.

not that i minded.. except for the fact that i had been up since 5am.

so go see the dark knight if you have not already.

just don't go see the late show.

today's purchase i guess now becomes more of a footnote.

to the point.

i smoke. i need to keep some breath spray around.
i got it for cheap. a buck84. it will keep my breath "seeming" fresh for at least 100-150 uses. if i manage to not lose it before it runs out it becomes quite the investment, but like chapstick, breathsprays tend to get lost in the shuffle.. the hustle.. the bustle.

i once had a tube of chapstick for 1 year. it was still good. still had some left.
a miracle that.

day 43- what did you say? oh.. it's time to clean out the ears

i never seem to have these things around. i buy them... they run out, and i forget to buy some more. it's a good thing most people keep them out in gandy little dispensers in their bathrooms.

that's right i'm not just using your facilities when i come over. i might be cleaning my ears too.

q-tips are one of the most versatile hygiene products ever created in my opinion. not only do they clean up the yuck from the ears better than anything else ever invented, but they are good for detail cleaning of just about any small area around the house. absolute genius.

only problem with them. they should not be placed inside the ear.
it's dangerous to do so.
it could result in severe injury
or death.

"huh? sorry, i didn't hear that. you see my ears are all clogged and if it was safe to use a cotton swab in my ear i wouldn't have this nasty wax blocking up the works. i'm afraid to put the cotton swab in my ear because the label says it's dangerous." says scary guy wearing the tin foil hat.

that's right.. check the label. those things are dangerous. killers.

i am sure a few people over the years have died, or been seriously injured using a q-tip, but i don't think it's that dangerous. these things have been around for almost 90 years.
when was the last time you heard of a bathroom q-tip incident?

if you are afraid of the q-tip then there is always the candle wax remover. to me that is a little scary, and gross.

after i clean my ears i am going to do some detail cleaning of my remote controls and computer peripherals. many of them are getting a bit gritty. i think it's time.

for a buck83 i can use a whole bunch of them and make one of those monster faces in the mirror... just like lane in better off dead. ok not just like him.. i am sure he was using "real" "q-tips". not some store brand, but as you know a buck64 only goes so far.

i also look forward to the good feeling i get when i clean my ears.

you know you like it too.

day 22- i thought the highlight of today would be my new phone...

wow! what a day. early this morning i went to get the new sprint phone. the "instinct" is a touch phone, an "ipod killer" or something like that. really, i just like gadgets and when your full 150 bucks come around from sprint you do go out there and try to get the best for your money.

so i get the phone and then i haul the 4 long blocks (those midtown crossing blocks can be a killer) back to work. i can't play with my new toy as i have to pay the rent. i do however get a little time to mess around with it and figure some stuff out.

fast forward to about 3pm. i get a message from the lady saying that i am in the news.

excitement. though i don't know what she means as i cannot get the phone to work yet. i have the internets and i can't get it to go.

finally, i find out that the cbs news channel in charlotte has discovered my blog and not only do they mention it, but they also chat up about the blog during their story on how people are spending their stimulus packages. you can watch the blog scrolling up and down the screen as they talk about my purchases. terrible picture, beer bottles and all.

one of them said "what fun".

really i am having a blast doing this whole thing. it is a mission, but there is no reason why i should not make it a fun mission. i am just happy to be getting the word out. spreading that word of a buck64aday across the whole world.

thanks wbtv. you have made my stat counter go through the roof.

you can check out the video clip here.

its a bit ironic that it got picked up in north carolina, as that is where i am originally from.

they added it to their blog. you can get all you might need from here.

aside from the moments of fame in the early morning hours of charlotte, north carolina i did a little bit of shopping today. spending that buck64 is what its all about right? thank god for the kitty or i would be in big trouble. i have been wanting to find something for the lady for some time. its hard to get something meaningful/useful for your girlfriend for a buck64, but i succeeded.

whenever she takes a shower at my place she is subject to all my "guy" toiletries. she has really nice skin and i thought she might like this loufa scrubber mit. this way she does not have to use my sad white "suds scrubber". at a buck92 its within the budget and it might give her a better shower. our water pressure is pretty terrible and this might just make a shower at the pitt more enjoyable.

don't worry i'll stick to my own scrubber.

i had a good time seeing the word get spread today and i would like to see more of it. please pass me around. its only day 22. we have a long way to go. a long way.

a fortnight- no, i don't got the herp.

but, apparently 1/4 of nyc has got it. no really, i swear i don't have the herp, but on the hype of the news story yesterday i decided to pick some carmex up. ignore the price above. i got mines for a buck92, cleaned out my kitty and all. (camera was acting funny so i had to go to google images) i know it won't protect me from the herp, ( only i can do that) but it is a tingly lip balm.

i remember this stuff from college. ginni would swear by it. it seemed to "go away" for a while on the rumors of it being addictive. technically it is not. it is full of counter irritants though and it does dry out your lips. the camphor and the menthol do it... dry out the lips i mean.

the phenol is supposed to kill bacteria.

really this stuff is useless to anyone who wants to use it primarily as a lip balm, but it does produce some tingly lips. everyone likes some tingly lips every once in a while. right?

when i remember back.. people used to dip into each other's carmex like it was candy or snuff. good thing for the phenol or we all would have had each other's cooties to this day.

apparently our lips exfoliate every month, so in fact we don't need lip balm at all. we still use it though. no one wants to have some flaky-peeling lips when you're out and about.

just so your not laughing at us in nyc. remember, the national average for the herp is 19%. the rest of you are just five or so percentage points behind. watch out the herp is forever.

the people in nyc like to do it a little bit bigger.. a little better (or so we think) than the rest of america.
don't believe the hype!
nyc may have given madonna its start, but don't make the herp chic.

the next time your in nyc for a convention, vacation or whatever, remember 25 percent of the people you meet have the herp.
they may not even know.
even if they did.. do you think they would tell you?

be safe, so you don't have to be sorry.

day 4- sunday sundries

its sunday and i just spent a hard day doin nothin.

well some stuff, but nothing i could say was constructive unless you call eating some damn good tacos at barrio chino (finally) and an even better jalepeno lime margarita.

wow that was good. nothing like a nice and spicy drink on a sunny warm sunday afternoon in the lower east side.

i can't wait for my jalepenos to come in so i can make my own spicy tequila.

after the goodness we got some cheap "banana" chairs from the rite aid to sit on the roof and get some sun. we tried to get some at lowes yesterday but they had nothin. whats with having the largest selction of chaise lounge cushions in brooklyn and no actual chaise lounge to put the cushions on?

the pitt penthouse has seen its loss of chairs due to wind and weathering, but last year we lost more than a few. definitely time for new ones.

the new lounges are nice and clean.
for now.

of course as soon as we got to lounging the clouds came in and busted up the party. typical.

blogs are supposed to be short and sweet i hear and i will push this one through for you all. on to the purchase.

i had to swing by the duane reade on the way to dinner to pick up some cigs and also some soap to replace a bar i ganked from the roomie. found the soap and went lookin for something to buy. the kitty was pretty low so i had some severe limitations. not a whole lot there for me in the buck64 range.

wouldn't you know it like a beacon (i think this line will get tired real quick) there was the travel section and the toothpaste was calling to me with its buck39 price tag. i don't normally go for the arm and hammer, but in a pinch i can do with the chalkiness.

with tax a buck51.
nice.

i always carry around a toothbrush with me, but carrying around a big tube o' the paste can make the tired old bag a bit full. of course carrying around a larger tube is more econimical. this i know. still it will be nice to be able to reach for the little guy and get all cleaned up wherever i go.
even bigger plus now i dont have to remember to leave the house toothpaste for the lady when i head off to work. many a time i have felt bad for leaving her no paste at all and yet a nice large cup of strong coffee to help her start her day off with a bright smile.

this is it for today. time to catch up on the last two episodes of lost. i hear its a doozy.
